Super Visa Applications
Parents and Grandparents Super Visa was launched on December 01, 2011, by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. Now parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents have a new option for visiting Canada. Your parents may be eligible to apply and obtain the Parents and Grandparents Super Visa. If you applied on or after July 04, 2022, you’ll be eligible for a stay up to 5 years at a time. If you entered Canada with a valid super visa before July 04, 2022, the length of stay granted to you by the border services officer when you entered Canada remains the same. For instance, if you were granted 2 years, it would remain 2 years.
The Ministerial Instructions were issued on June 18, 2018, in accordance with the ministerial authority found in subsection 15(4) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and direct officers to consider issuing to eligible parents and grandparents a multiple-entry TRV for up to 10 years, with the status period extending for up to 2 years on each entry to Canada.
To Apply For The Parents And Grandparents Super Visa, You Must:
- Be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada
- Be found admissible to Canada
- Meet the Low Income Cut Off (LICO)/Minimum Necessary Income (MNI)
- Buy Medical insurance coverage (at least $100,000 per parent for 1 year) from a Canadian company for your parents/grandparents
Note:
The applicant cannot include his or her dependent child(ren) in the Parents and Grandparents Super Visa application. Only your spouse or common-law partner is eligible to accompany you under this provision.
Visa officers consider several factors before deciding if a person is admissible. The person must be a genuine visitor to Canada who will leave by choice at the end of the visit. Among the things that could be considered are:
- The person’s ties to the home country
- The purpose of the visit
- The person’s family and financial situation
- The overall economic and political stability of the home country
- An invitation from a Canadian host
In addition to being found admissible to Canada, the parent or grandparent must also
- Provide a written commitment of financial support from their child or grandchild in Canada who meets a minimum income threshold
- Prove that they have bought Canadian medical insurance coverage for at least one year
- Complete an Immigration Medical Examination
